I Wonder

Someone makes a subtle suggestion

And it changes the way you see the story.

Not adding to the text

Or spinning a new version.

Just asking a simple question,

Shining a spotlight on what has been.

It was John’s gospel, his account

Of resurrection morning

Mary at the tomb, seeing a man

Supposing he was the gardener.

The question: Did Jesus

Do this on purpose?

Did the resurrected Christ choose to

Reveal himself as Gardener?

And why not? The story coming to

Climax as though it was just beginning, and

In the beginning, did Adam and Eve

Know God as the blowing Wind, or

As the Gardener, planting, creating

Everything beautiful and good?

And when He returns and restores

His tree of life by the flowing waters

How will He choose to be seen?
